Earlier this month, the Amazon Studios dramedy "Transparent" about a grown man who decides to accept himself and transition into a woman won a couple of Golden Globe Awards - and now, transsexuality becomes the subject of news after the almost official announcement that Bruce Jenner's transition is a reality and not the result of idle gossip.
In a recent interview with Radar Online, 88 year-old Esther Jenner, the mother of the Olympian athlete, has spoken out about Bruce Jenner's transition into womanhood, which she wasn't aware was happening until the star himself told her about it. He had to come to terms with it himself before speaking to his family about it.
As The New York Times reports, the first news of Bruce Jenner's transition was the subject of mockery in media, as the possibility was being met with giggles - including the much-derided inTouch Magazine cover that featured Jenner wearing make-up and dressed as a woman - a Photoshopped version that was later discovered to be a mash-up between his face and that of a British actress.
"It was brief and I said I was proud of him and that I'll always love him," said widow Esther to The Associated Press recently, speaking about Jenner's transition. "I never thought I could be more proud of Bruce when he reached his goal in 1976, but I'm more proud of him now. It takes a lot of courage to do what he's doing."
Though Bruce hasn't spoken out yet, Jenner's mother has talked to news outlets about the courage it took to get to Bruce Jenner's transition - gladly, he (or rather, she) seems to have a very accepting mother.
