Though everyone's attention was focused on the Super Bowl this weekend and music-wise in what halftime show star Katy Perry was preparing, on Saturday, there was a different pre-Super Bowl affair going on, where Kanye and Rihanna's DIRECTV bash was nothing short of spectacular.
All eyes were turned to Arizona as the world waited for Katy Perry's odd and poptastic performance, but Saturday night was all about Kanye and Rihanna's DIRECTV party before the major encounter between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks that saw the Patriots become the National Football League's World Champions.
According to The Associated Press, the Kanye and Rihanna DIRECTV concert was meant to be all about the Barbadian singer, but as she's promoting her new single "FourFiveSeconds" with Kim Kardashian's husband, it was no surprise to see the famous rapper side by side with the "Umbrella" performer.
As Rolling Stone Magazine reports, the whole thing happened during the annual Super Saturday Night that has seen stars like Justin Timberlake and Jay Z in the past - now, also Kanye and Rihanna's DIRECTV party!
Set in Glendale, Arizona, just hours before the final match between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots, the show featured the Barbadian singer performing hits like "We Found Love" and "Rude Boy," afterwards matching up with Kanye and leaving him to perform a mini set of 10 minutes, where he even debuted the first live rendition ever of "Only One," his recent collaboration with legendary former Beatle Paul McCartney.
Hot New Hip Hop reports that, among the hits played in the DIRECTV Super Saturday Night were the "Diamonds" remix, "All of the Lights" and "Run This Town."
After a long list of collaborations, it's clear that Kanye and Rihanna's DIRECTV performance was laid-back and a lot of fun for the two friends - and they'll be repeating the experience in just a few weeks alongside McCartney, at the next Grammy Awards ceremony!
