More than a decade after Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman divorced and following the fact that both of them have remarried since (Cruise even divorced "Dawson's Creek" wife Katie Holmes) news has come out that, during their marriage, the Church of Scientology actually wiretapped the telephones of the Oscar-winning actress.
Before the actress was a part of films like "The Others" and the widely acclaimed Baz Luhrmann movie "Moulin Rouge!" she was mostly known as the beautiful Australian wife of the "Born on the 4th of July" actor, and Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's marriage and subsequent divorce made headlines all over the worlds at the time - and continues to do so, more than a decade after the both of them broke up.
Now, as Red Book Mag reports, news has come out that Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's marriage was less private than had been previously thought, considering how airtight they both were at the time regarding their relationship. While the public was mostly unaware of what happened between the two actors, there were definitely others who showed more interest: the heads of the Church of Scientology, Cruise's famous religious association.
Website Laist reports that the new discovery about Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's marriage was part of a recent HBO documentary called "Going Clear," an exposé about the hidden practices of the Church of Scientology.
Recently released to the public for the first time in the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, the Alex Gibney documentary shows that Cruise himself had asked the Church to wiretap his wife's phone conversations, as she was deemed suspicious due to the fact that her father, Antony David Kidman, was a prominent psychologist, and Scientology doesn't believe in psychology.
As Us Weekly reports, the documentary basically blames the Church of Scientology for the breakup of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, stating that the actor had stepped back from his religious beliefs during their marriage and so they embarked on a plan to split them up, which ultimately resulted in their 2001 divorce.
