In one of those rare cases of two family members making it big in Hollywood and still getting along, Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher shared a beautiful moment together as the classic musical film star from "Singin' in the Rain" got a Lifetime Achievement Award from the hands of her daughter, princess Leia in the flesh!
While perhaps people who know the "Star Wars" actress don't know this, Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher are not only related, but they're mother and daughter - and back in the 50s, the family was even part of a major controversy, as Carrie's father, Eddie Fisher, left Debbie after falling in love with star Elizabeth Taylor - only to be left himself when Taylor met Richard Burton on the set of classic epic film "Cleopatra."
In any case, as CNN reports, Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher made a sweet public appearance over the past weekend, as the older actress, most famous for her role in the Gene Kelly classic "Singin' in the Rain," got a Lifetime Achievement Award at the latest Screen Actors Guild ceremony, and her daughter Carrie Fisher was there to introduce her mother on stage.
Of course, as E! Online reports, the Debbie Reynold Carrie Fisher comments were full of satire, as the "When Harry Met Sally" actress is known for her self-deprecating humor - but her mom, a Hollywood veteran and a two-time Academy Award nominee, didn't let her daughter take all the comedic spotlight.
"Of course, I had a wonderful hairdo in that picture," Reynolds said in the awards ceremony according to the International Business Times, speaking of her role as Kathy in the classic Gene Kelly musical. "I know some of you may not remember this, but I had a bun. At the back of my head, I had a big bun -- an ugly bun. So I warned my daughter Carrie, who had just gotten a part in a picture -- Princess Leia in 'Star Wars,' I said, 'Well Carrie, be careful of any weird hairdos.' So luckily, George [Lucas] gave her two buns. Thank you George."
It seems like Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher have a very sweet relationship going on - and one filled with humor, no doubt!
