Possibly one of the most controversial figures in the entire sport (and definitely the top one in women's soccer), it's not the first time that Hope Solo's suspended from playing with the United States Women's National Team; now, the issue stems from a recent charge for driving under the influence.
In the past few months, it was widely thought that Hope Solo's suspended status would change soon, as the American goalie has been involved in a domestic abuse case where she allegedly assaulted her half-sister and her nephew and was arrested for it over the past summer.
As CNN reports, the news that Hope Solo's suspended comes after a tough year for the sportswoman: besides her widely reported arrest, she was also one of the many victims of the celebrity nude leak scandal over the past fall (which most famously included Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence), and has been the often subject of media attacks due to her rep as a bad girl.
In the past, Solo had been suspended after she was found to have used a banned substance during a match, something that happened only a month before she and the rest of the U.S. National Women's Team won Olympic gold for the second time in London.
Now, according to The Huffington Post, Hope Solo's suspended over a new incident that occurred a few days ago. In the early hours of the past Monday morning, Jerramy Stevens, a former Seattle Seahawks NFL player and Solo's husband, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence; although media states that Solo was in the car at the time, there are no reports of her presence by Manhattan Beach police officers; in any case, this behavior was enough (on top of everything else) to gather the goalie a suspension, which will last for 30 days and make her miss matches against France and England.
"I think it's best for me to take a break," tweeted the goalie, according to BBC, after news that Hope Solo's suspended came out, "decompress from the stress of the last several months and come back mentally and physically ready to positively contribute to the team."
