AMD Releases Carrizo Microprocessor In Hopes Of Reviving The PC Market

Advanced Micro Devices or AMD is looking to reinvigorate its market dominance after revealing that they are shipping out its newest microprocessor, the Carrizo. AMD CEO Lisa Su confirmed the release on Tuesday and said that the new chip will hit the market within the second quarter of the year.

CEO Su said in a statement that, "Consumer and commercial design-win momentum for Carrizo continues to gain momentum because it will deliver the largest ever generational leap in performance-per-watt for our mainstream [processors]."

Latest reports from AMD shows that the company is falling behind in terms of sales output and market sales, the company's earnings dropped to $1.24 billion in 2014, significantly lower compared to the $1.59 billion revenue they posted on 2013.

AMD's market decline can also be pointed out to the shift from conventional PC's to mobile computers. AMD is best known for the leading provider of microprocessors from laptops and desktop computers, unfortunately the continuing deterioration of the PC market also presented serious problems for the company since its biggest source of revenue comes from that segment of the market.

Analyst from Mercury Research Dean McCarron said that, "The PC market was entering a decline phase, and they introduced products as that was happening. That's less than ideal timing."

AMD has been remodeling its business strategy in order to cope up with the shifting demographics of the market. The company changed its focus from desktop computers towards high-end graphics card and custom processors, this move however only generated minor success. Right now AMD processors are integrated to gaming consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

On a global scale, the PC market is still in decline and analysts predicts that it will slowly stabilize within the next two years and right now AMD is losing the battle to Intel in the market for the 32-bit microprocessor.
