After a series of unsuccessful television movies about famous public figures like Aaliyah and Brittany Murphy, the latest Lifetime film, a Whitney Houston biopic, has also failed to impress fans and the singer's family, as well as enraging some over its very graphic sexual content, as well as excessive drug use.
It's not the first time that a Lifetime film about a famous figure fails to impress; in fact, it seems like every one of those biopics seems doomed to fail these days. In any case, the current Whitney Houston biopic has met with a lot of criticism ever since it was first stated to be produced, as the singer's family disagreed with the subject and portrayal of the film and failed to give their consent for the movie to go through.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the Whitney Houston biopic wasn't met with universal pan, as it somewhat common for Lifetime movies, but rather with mixed reviews, after the release of "Whitney," a film directed by "Boyz n the Hood " actress Angela Basset and starring Yaya DaCosta as Whitney Houston and Arlen Escarpeta as her husband Bobby Brown.
After Houston's family warned that the Whitney Houston biopic was a terrible depiction of the "I Will Always Love You" singer, the world was shocked to see that, instead of a terrible movie, they were meeting with a widely uninteresting one, though not that bad a film.
As People Magazine reports, Yaya DaCosta took her time in getting to know the iconic actress' life, as she meant to portray her to perfection; the alumna from Tyra Banks' reality show made sure she could take whatever she could from her previous experience to play the singer, as well as working on her voice and posing.
As The Daily Mail reports, however, the biggest issue critics have had with the Whitney Houston biopic is the fact that the sex scenes have been deemed too graphic and unnecessary, as well as the extensive drug abuse shown throughout the movie.
