Marion Cotillard Oscar: Surprise Nomination For ‘Two Days, One Night’

After all the different award shows had Jennifer Aniston's performance in "Cake" nominated and she was thought to be a shoe-in when the Academy Awards nominations where announced, Marion Cotillard's Oscar nod for "Two Days, One Night" surprised fans and critics alike.

It was supposed to be the first time that Jennifer Aniston, famous for her roles in romantic comedies and in the beloved television series "Friends," would get recognition from the Academy Awards, following a long successful run in this award season - now, critics around the world have said that Marion Cotillard's Oscar nomination took the place of the "We're the Millers" star.

According to Elle Magazine, Marion Cotillard's Oscar nomination "snuck into" the Best Actress category, when everybody thought the cards had been already placed and that Aniston was a sure thing to appear on the nominees ballot, though it seems like instead the beautiful French actress (who won an Oscar for her portrayal of chanson singer Edith Piaf in "La Môme") got her second-ever nomination to the Academy Award.

As The Daily Mail reports, Marion Cotillard's Oscar nomination left yet another favorite out of the competition: Amy Adams, who won a Golden Globe last Sunday for her portrayal of American artist Margaret Keane in the Tim Burton film "Big Eyes," also failed to get a nomination - an odd occurrence, since the actors who win the top awards in the Golden Globes (in the two categories, Drama and Comedy or Musical) usually end up getting at least an Oscar nomination later in the season.

As Hollywood Life reports, however, not all critics and fans are of the opinion that Cotillard "stole" Aniston's nod, but rather see it as a pleasant surprise in a year that was seen as uninteresting in the category, stating that Cotillard's performance in the film (originally named "Deux Jours, Une Nuit" in French) was deserving of at least a nomination.

While Marion Cotillard's Oscar nomination comes as a surprised, many already believed that Julianne Moore's performance in "Still Alice" is a lock to win in the category, after the actress has already been nominated four times to the Oscars without winning.
