After a successful launch over the past weekend - although the expected ocean landing didn't make it as well as it had been hoped -, the SpaceX Dragon grapple and dock was successful, and the mission of bringing supplies to the International Space Station has been officially completed.
The space rocket meant to deliver over 5,000 pounds of supplies to the astronauts in the International Space Station has finally seen the completion of the SpaceX Dragon grapple and dock, as the residents of ISS get different items, from scientific supplies to delayed Christmas presents.
According to NBC News, the successful SpaceX Dragon grapple and dock happened in the early hours of the morning (at 5:54 am in Eastern Time), as the commercial cargo ship brought the current crew of the ISS different items, from food supplies, science material that had been lost in a fire over the past October until even Christmas presents to the crew sent by their families and loved ones.
According to The Guardian, the six astronauts currently on the International Space Station had been running low on supplies for a few months, ever since the previous supply ship meant to reach them was lost in a launch explosion back in October. The launch of "Dragon" was delayed for over a month due to different issues, until it was finally launched on Saturday, January 10.
Now that the SpaceX Dragon grapple and dock is secured, many have turned back to talking about the launch, according to NASA Space Flight, as the spacecraft made by the company of Elon Musk was almost successful in its attempt to return the core stage, Falcon 9, a feat that would make it possible to reuse the first stage of the rocket in a new launch.
In any case, the SpaceX Dragon grapple and dock allowed the ISS astronauts to fulfill their supply needs for the time being, and the private space company will still move forward with the attempt of recoverable first stages.
