Following the shocking news regarding Jackie Chan's son in the last few months of 2014, it seems the new year hasn't brought the family the best luck in this aspect: Chinese courts have convicted Jaycee Chan to six months in prison following a drug-related scandal.
Although it's obvious that any sort of felony or misdemeanor charge from Jackie Chan's son would have been a major hit for any father, things become even worse considering Jackie had actually been named an anti-drug ambassador in 2009 by the Chinese government, supporting President Xi Jinping in his fight against illegal drugs and the plea for bigger punishments for those who use them.
Back in August, Jackie Chan's son Jaycee was arrested in his Beijing home after local police found more than 100 grams of marijuana in his apartment; the charges against him also included accommodating drug users, an offense that could potentially carry up to three years of prison time.
Later last year, the actor put out a statement saying he blamed himself for not being a good parent, asking the press to give the family some privacy for the sake of his wife, retired Taiwanese film actress Lin Feng-jiao.
Jaycee Chan was arrested alongside Taiwanese movie star Ko Kai and, according to The Daily Mail, and upon being tested, both stars came out positive for using the drug, which is widely illegal in the Asian country.
According to BBC, Jackie Chan's son Jaycee, 32, pleaded guilty to the charges, particularly the bigger one of "hosting others to take drugs." Besides being sentenced to six months in prison, Jaycee also received a fine for 2,000 yuan (which is about $320), said the Dongcheng District People's Court.
"I committed a crime and deserve to be punished," said Jackie Chan's son, according to courtroom transcripts obtained by CNN. "It doesn't mean I have received mercy and forgiveness -- I hope to earn them with my future actions."
