A new research on avocado can decrease bad cholesterol levels in obese and overweight individuals than compared to those who do not consume avocado daily. The study was published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
In the new research on avocado, 45 healthy overweight or obese individuals with age 21 to 70 were subjected to consume any of the three various cholesterol-lowering diets.
Participants were allowed to eat typical American diet with 51 percent calories from carbs, 34 percent calories from fat and 16 percent protein for two weeks before they begin any of the cholesterol lowering diets.
The new research on avocado result indicates that the LDL (low density lipoprotein) was 13.5 mg/dl lower after eating moderate fat diet with avocado. Those who consumed moderate fat diet without avocado was 8.3 mg/dl lower while lower fat diet is 7.4 mg/dl lower.
Avocado provides MUFAs, monounsaturated fatty acids, fiber, phytosterols, and other compounds that are all considered bioactive components for the positive result on the new research on avocado.
MUFAs, monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids reduce risk of heart disease. LDL or low density lipoprotein increases the bad cholesterol and increases probability of having heart problem.
From the new research on avocado, researchers conclude that eating avocados daily have beneficial effect of lowering risk of developing heart disease.
It is therefore essential to include avocado in your diet everyday especially if you are overweight or obese to lower the bad cholesterol levels.
