Jon Jones drug treatment news came unexpectedly when he was tested positive for benzoylecgonine, the main metabolite in cocaine. The result came out shortly before his Jan. 3 title fight at UFC 182.
Jon Jones, amongst the sport's greatest athletes underwent a test in Nevada State Athletic Commission on Dec. 4. Jon Jones drug treatment was announced by the UFC light heavyweights champ himself on Tuesday, according to Yahoo News.
On Saturday, Jon Jones won over Daniel Cormier at the UFC 182 held at MGM Grand Garden after five rounds. His victory made people believe that he is the greatest mixed martial arts fighter of all time.
Even after Jon Jones result tested positive, he was not banned from playing as the Nevada Commission is protected by World Anti-Doping Agency Code.
As Jon Jones drug treatment news spread, the UFC light-heavyweight champion sent his statement to Yahoo Sports that states:
"With the support of my family, I have entered into a drug treatment facility. I want to apologize to my fiancée, my children, as well as my mother, father, and brothers for the mistake that I made. I also want to apologize to the UFC, my coaches, my sponsors and equally important to my fans. I am taking this treatment program very seriously. Therefore, at this time my family and I would appreciate privacy."
Although UFC admitted that they were disappointed with the positive result of Jon Jones to cocaine, they expressed their admiration towards Jon Jones drug treatment to the rehab facility.
UFC President Dana White stated that he is standing by the decision of Jones to enter the rehab. He added he is proud of Jon Jones drug treatment and he was confident that after the program, he will be coming out champion he truly is.
Voluntarily, Jon Jones drug treatment garnered praises from UFC, his colleagues, friends, family and even in his business engagements. Jones, who signed for Reebok a month ago, received positive notes from the sports label.
Reebok stated that they were proud of Jon Jones drug treatment as he took the initial step to address the issue. The company expressed their support in any way they can and assured that Jones relationship with Reebok will not be affected with Jon Jones drug treatment issues.
According to Fox Sports, after Jon Jones tested positive for cocaine, he was tested again for follow up and he passed it without any problem.
Jon Jones drug treatment issues are just one of the issues that the wrestler had faced recently. In 2012, he was charged for driving while intoxicated while he was driving his Bentley in Binghamton, New York although he pleaded guilty, he was not sentenced.
In August 2014, Jones was also involved in clash with Cormier in a casino lobby. Both of them were penalized by ordering them for community service.
Jon Jones whose real name is Jonathan Dwight "Jon" Jones is the present UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. He garnered the title in March 2011, making him the youngest champion in UFC history.
Since then with his prowess in martial arts and wrestling, he gained the title, #1 light heavyweight fighter in the world and the #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
Jon Jones drug treatment issues have not made the youngest champion in UFC history feel down. After drug rehabilitation, everyone expects to see the same champion in Jon Jones.
