The U.S. News & World Report has finally released ranking of 35 diets that score high in terms of seven criteria. The diets were ranked by a panel of experts that include specialists in heart health, diabetes, weight loss and human behavior and nutritionists.
The 35 diets were ranked by the U.S. News & World Report based on how effective it is in weight loss, heart disease and diabetes, how nutritious it is, how safe and how easy those diets can be followed. DASH Diet landed on top while Paleo Diet that has been trending in the recent years fell on the last spot.
The U.S. News & World Report according to FORBES gave credits to the Best Diet for Weight-Loss, the Best Heart Healthy Diet, Best Diet Overall, the Best Plant-Based Diet and the Best Diabetes Diet. The panel of professionals gave a score of five for the best and 1 for the worst diet.
We know that dieting is very, very hard," says Senior health and wellness editor at U.S. News, Angela Haupt. "People often fail because maybe they've chosen the wrong method. Our ranking is analytical, yet understandable."
The U.S. News & World Report aims at offering people the right information on what diet to follow. Haupt believes that with the rankings, making personal decision on what diet to follow would be easier. The rankings of the diet are also aimed at showing people the pros and cons of each diet.
Here are the 35 diets ranking based on the U.S. News & World:
DASH Diet scored 4.1 out of 5 with its safety, nutritional adequacy, effectiveness in controlling diabetes and its role in supporting heart health.
Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes, or TLC diet, scored 4 out of 5 was regarded by the expert as "very healthful, safe and complete diet."
Mayo Clinic diet scored 3.9 out of 5 from the U.S. News & World Report with its safety and nutrition.
Mediterranean diet garnered 3.9 out of 5 tied up with Mayo Clinic diet for its emphasis on olive oil, fish, fruits and vegetables, and other healthy foods.
Weight Watchers diet also scored 3.9 out of 5 with its safety, ease to follow and nutrition.
