The hit fantasy TV series from HBO, "Game of Thrones" has once again topped the chart for the most pirated TV series for three consecutive years. In fact, statistics shows that the series has been illegally downloaded that it was watched legally.
The fantasy drama based on George R.R. Martin's novel "A Song of Ice and Fire", has been downloaded on an estimated 8.1 million times via the torrent client BitTorrent according to TorrentFreak. "Game of Thrones" has been a massive hit ever since the airing of its first season and fansare already in anticipation of the highly awaited fifth installment. The series has already surpassed "The Sopranos" as the most watched HBO show of all time. The series also set an all-time record in torrent history when it was being shared by more than 250,000 people at a given time. According to HBO, the series' fourth season finale was watched by more than 7.1 million people; however that figure still pales in comparison
According to Expicio, a piracy-tracking firm, "The Walking Dead" is the second most pirated TV-series. Of the countries being tracked by Expicio, Brazil clocked in with the most download with 28.4 overall downloads followed by Russia with 28.1 download and India with 16 million downloads. According to Excipio the exceptionally high download rate of US TV series abroad comes from the reason that the those TV series are not available in those regions through legal channels so viewers will have to resort to torrent downloading in order to access those shows.
