Selena Mosque: Selena Gomez Instagram Shows Ankles On Abu Dhabi Mosque, Gets Panned [PHOTOS]

It seems that Selena Gomez is starting the year with the wrong foot, or rather the wrong ankle: during a recent visit to United Arab Emirates, the actress posted a picture of herself in a famous temple and got a lot of hate on Instagram, causing the Selena mosque picture to be ultimately deleted.

It's not the best start for 2015 for the "The Heart Wants What It Wants" singer, after she was recently heavily panned over a Selena mosque photo that featured her showing all kinds of ankle in a sacred place in one of the most traditional Arab countries.

According to The Daily Mail, the Selena mosque controversy first started on New Year's Day, as the actress and singer visited Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates, with a few of her also very famous friends. The whole thing began as she posted a photo on her Instagram with a friend.

As she visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the whole Selena mosque issue began as the actress took a photo of herself fully covered in black and loose clothing, only not wearing any shoes: as such, she was showing both her ankles and part of her right leg, according to Hollywood Reporter, and it could be seen that she was wearing Capri pants under the Muslim attire.

After that, a whole wave of hate came Selena's way, as many Instagram users considered the photo disrespectful to the Muslim religion, Arab culture and above all the place of worship, which has already seen controversy beforehand when Rihanna was expelled a while back, as she was doing a photo shoot that was deemed offensive by the country's authorities.

The actress went on to delete the infamous Selena mosque photo, but kept on a few other pictures of her and other pals at the famous place of worship, such as Kendall Jenner, Cody Simpson and Shay Mitchell, where they all appear smiling at the cameras - something that's actually forbidden by regulations within the sacred place, according to The Mirror.
