The Interview Online: Over $15 Million In Online Sales For Rogen Franco North Korea Comedy!

The first numbers for the Sony Pictures "The Interview" online release are finally out, and it seems the Seth Rogen and James Franco movie have been breaking massive records for the studio and online movie showings in general - one point for Sony, one less for North Korea!

Following weeks of issues with the Kim Jong-un North Korean government and the Sony Pictures leaking scandal, finally news has come out that "The Interview" online has officially become the highest-grossing web release for Sony Pictures in its entire history, after it was released in selected theaters across the United States and reached wild numbers.

Unfortunately for the North Korean government, all their antics towards the elimination of the film about an assassination attempt against their Supreme Leader ended blowing up in their faces: the more publicity the film got after the Sony Pictures leak and the studio's decision not to release it in theaters, the more people wanted to watch a movie that could have otherwise gone off to be just another James Franco and Seth Rogen comedy.

According to The Daily Mail, "The Interview" online has now gathered $15 million in sales, without counting what the movie has made from the few theaters that have released it across the United States. And that's counting the fact that the year hasn't ended yet and the film was only released on Christmas Eve.

According to NPR, while "The Interview" online has gotten the most revenue, the 331 theaters that have been playing the movie since last week have also reached nearly $2 million in revenue; a great decrease from the original plan of releasing the film in 2,000 to 3,000 across the United States.

Now, "The Interview" online has broken a number of records for online sales and distribution of films; now, according to Business Insider, the film costs $14.99 to own and $5.99 to rent, all because the North Korean government couldn't keep easy about the whole thing.
