Hamas Commander Killed In Recent Gaza Strip Encounter

A clash alongside the Israel and Gaza border last Wednesday has left one Israeli soldier badly injured and a Hamas commander dead. Officials from both the Israeli and Palestinian military have confirmed that this military clash will have to be one of the most serious explosions of violence within the area since the 50 day war last summer.

According to the official statement of the Israeli military, the gunfight was instigated after a sniper within the Gaza Strip fired continues rounds on an Israel patrol within the border. In retaliation, the Israeli army sent fighter jets and ground forces which targeted strategic points in the Hamas' military position located in the southern part of the area. Similar but less intense clashes have been witnessed within the area Friday after an Israeli military aircraft attacked a Hamas base within the Gaza Strip. The attack according to the Israeli army is in response Hamas' continuous launching of rocket within the Israel territory, fortunately no reports of injury or casualty was reported.

Israeli Army reported that the injured soldier belong to the Bedouin Reconnaissance Unit. Local media outlets in Gaza reported that Taisir Sumairi, Hamas' commander of a lookout unit was killed and several other Palestinian soldiers were injured.

The Gaza Strip is a pene-exclave located along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, the Islamist militant group Hamas currently the de facto rulers of the area.

The 50 day war between Israel and Palestine has ended last Aug but several exchange of gunfire has occurred long after the war has ended. Several reports show of the Hamas militants firing rockets into the Israeli region. Other reports reveal of Palestinians being harassed if not injured or killed by the opposing Israeli faction. There are also reports of sniper attacks against patrols of the Israeli military on a daily basis.

United Nations agencies reported that the clashes in Gaza Strip have claimed the lives of more than 2,199 Palestinians. 64 soldiers along with 6 civilians were killed in the Israeli side.
