Earlier this year, Sony made history after it let its customers play PlayStation games on their television without using a console. Making use of its cloud based streaming services; owners of Sony Smart TV's can enjoy their favorite PlayStation titles without using any PlayStation console at all. However, Sony is not finished yet and is pushing the boundaries of gaming to a higher level. Recent reports revealed that Sony is now partnering with Samsung; this partnership will enable "PlayStation Now" fully applied on Samsung Smart TV's.
"PlayStation Now" is a Gaikai based video game streaming service by Sony. The service is used to stream PlayStation games directly to Sony products like the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation TV and a series of Bravia Televisions. User can play original PlayStation 3 titles via a monthly subscription or using a per-game basis. Sony is also considering adding PlayStation 4 titles in the future as well as classic games from the original PlayStation and the PlayStation 2.
This partnership between Sony and Samsung will definitely create a different market on video game industry. Although Sony has yet to release an official date when the service will be available for Samsung but rumors are circulating around the tech world that it might be within the first quarter of 2015.
According to reports from both Sony and Samsung, once the service will be made available to Samsung products, a "PlayStation Now" application will be added to Samsung Smart TV's interface in order to access the availability of PlayStation games. Once the app is downloaded all the users need to do is search for a game, choose one to rent and then the game will be downloaded instantly into the TV and can be played almost instantly. The service however will require PlayStation Network user information as well as credit card information for renting the game.
