Dish Network customers will soon get the chance to stream their favorite Netflix movies through Dish Network's top of the line Hopper and Joey DVR set. This means that customers doesn't need to switch their TV inputs between Dish Network's satellite TV and the online streaming provided by Netflix. This move will make the satellite cable company the first ever pay-TV provider in the United States to offer Netflix streaming through its DVR platform.
This newest addition to the Dish Network Hopper system doesn't come in for free unfortunately, Dish Network customers still needs to subscribe to Netflix in order to use the service. Nevertheless, this move by Dish Network to combine Netflix to their line of services will be immensely convenient for their customers who don't have the luxury of a smart TV or a home theater personal computer or a streaming device like the Roku or Chromecast. For the user to complete take advantage of this new offer from Dish Network, all they need are a second generation Hopper DVR and Netflix subscription. Once customers have sync their Netflix account to their Hopper DVR, all the user needs to do is push the blue hotkey button in their Dish remote and select the Netflix icon on their TV, after that, they're all set to stream any videos on their subscription.
Based on the press release from Dish Network, they have plans in the future to fully assimilate the Netflix contents in their system. This means that Dish Network customers with a Netflix subscription can now search Netflix content within their live, recorded or even Video On Demand programs on the Hopper platform.
It is no longer a secret that Dish Network is planning to launch an over-the-top (OTT) pay-TV service. This was publicized by the company's head Charlie Ergen during Dish Networks third-quarter earnings call for this year. Hopefully this move to integrate Netflix over Dish Networks Hopper system will not jeopardize the OTT plans of the network.
