Recent diplomatic developments between the United States and Cuba have restored the waning ties between the two countries. Cuban President Raul Castro however demanded that the United States should respect the communist rule within Cuba in order for the developments of be worked out. The president also warned the possibility of a Cuban-American exiles plans to sabotage the ongoing peace and economic process.
After 18 months of clandestine negotiations, the United States and Cuba have had a historic agreement of swapping political prisoners between the two states. This move will also mark a significant turn towards President Obama's stand on Cold-War era policies. Castro have publicly declared his positive intentions of discussing opening up with United States about sharing economic strategies to help Cuba's development but insisted that Cuba will not give up on its socialist principles.
While addressing the National Assembly on Sat, Castro said "In the same way that we have never demanded that the United States change its political system, we will demand respect for ours."
On a speech given by US President Barrack Obama, he reiterated that by opening up to the American principles, there is a big change that it will encourage the reform the currently accepted one-party system and centrally planned economy of Cuba. A view that Castro sternly countered stating that Cuba has no intention of changing its political principles as much as the United States wants to change theirs as well.
Despite the positive improvements between the relation of the two countries, Castro still did not forget to points out that Cuba facing a long and difficult struggle before the US removed the age-old economic embargo imposed against them. Castro pointed the influential Cuban-American exiles to be responsible for the said move.
The publicized discussions between Cuba and the US have garnered huge attention within the world politics. Unknown to the rest of the world, the two countries have been in constant negotiations for more than six months. A move that Pope Francis and the Canadian government help to put up.
