Aaron Paul Plays Luke Skywalker In Jason Reitman’s Staged Reading Of ‘Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back’

Aaron Paul, Luke Skywalker - When thinking about Aaron Paul and Luke Skywalker, anyone might realize that they seem like complete opposite characters. So, why did Jason Reitman choose the "Breaking Bad" actor to play the legendary character?

The choice was actually for them to be complete opposites indeed. Jason Reitman, director of "Juno," "Up in the Air" and "Men, Women & Children," among others, is doing a staged reading of "Star Wars: Episode V" and the casting is quite particular.

The first person he thought of was initially Luke Skywalker and who'd play him.

"My first instinct was, 'Who is the actor most like Mark Hamill today?' But five minutes into that, I'm thinking we already have that, we already have 'Star Wars' as it is. What is the opposite of that?" EW noted.

And following that train of thought, Reitman reached Aaron Paul as the perfect option. The director stated that Jesse from "Breaking Bad" has a way of facing authority that's very different to Luke Skywalker's way.

According to IGN, Reitman expects Aaron Paul's rendition of Luke Skywalker to be more street-smart and reluctant. The "Breaking Bad" actor already reacted to the choice on his Twitter.

"It's official! I will be playing Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. Give me my light saber!! Dreams are real my friends."

"To everyone that thinks I'm playing Luke Skywalker in the new movie... bless you. The link I posted talks about a staged reading I'm doing," he later on clarified on Dec. 17 to some confused fans who thought he'd be playing the character in "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens."

The stage reading will take place on Dec. 18. It'll be a one-night-only event at Los Angeles' Ace Hotel, Rolling Stone reported.

The rest of the cast includes: J.K. Simmons, who played Juno's father, as Darth Vader; Stephen Merchant, who tends to play comedy roles, as C-3PO and Kevin Pollack as Yoda.
