The Paleo Diet Was Not What Cavemen Ate

Paleo dieters, listen up! Cavemen might not have eaten what you guys are eating now as a study suggests prehistoric people tend to eat a more varied diet than just a meat-based strict treat, according to a report from CBS.

According to a research recently published in the Quarterly Review of Biology, they have studied the anatomical, environmental, chemical and feeding behavior of those who lived from six million to 1.6 million years ago. They also studied the beginning of the Paleolithic era where it was found out that the early primates were not the best at hunting for food.

The study also discovered that the diet varied as to where the hunter-gatherers stayed so to base it in an all-meat diet will not be proper to follow. For example, people who stayed in an area where northern climate was evident, they had an animal-based diet. Those who lived hear the equator ate more plant-based foods in order to survive.

The Paleo diet may not be what it is deemed to be and what followers believe as the research says, reconstructing the diet of human ancestors should be based on a lot of things such as potential foods available, what environments they lived in and how valuable the food items are to them in relation to energy content and how long would it take for them to eat again.

This has been confirmed by Dr. Ken Sayers, a postdoctoral researcher at the Language Research Center of Georgia State. He is also the co-author of the paper and he pointed out that the Paleo diet means people should eat unprocessed foods.

According to ABC News, Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Biel, Gwyneth Paltrow and Miley Cyrus are some of the known followers of this diet.

Also, according to Huffington Post, there are so many Paleo diets so dieters could not just be following one.
