Google Play’s Most Popular Applications Revealed

Google has finally announced the most popular applications, games and other content frequently downloaded from its own Google Play Store for the year 2014.

 On the applications category, Facebook still dominates the group. Candy Crush Saga hails on top of every other game in the games category. On the music category, it was a close competition between Pandora and Spotify. Pandora, however, still emerged as the most downloaded music application. On the sports category, NFL Mobile ruled the category and overshadowed its rivals. For the fastest growing application category, Health and Fitness came on to the top. This poses a new and interesting market for wearable devices. "The Walking Dead" dominated the TV show category while "Toy Story" takes the top spot for Comeback Movie of the year. According to Google's tabulation, Frozen takes the cake for the most popular movie of the year. It also bagged the award for the most popular album.  

The annual list of the most popular applications being downloaded on Google Play is a way for Google to flaunt its very own digital store. Google Play, though in a sluggish but steady pace is slowly catching up to its biggest rival, Apple's App Store, when it comes to download and revenue.

Google Play, which was previously named Anroid Market, is Google's digital platform for the distribution of its Android-based applications. It also serves as an outlet to download and buy music, books, movies, magazines and television programs. It was initially launched last March 6, 2012. Google Play saw its emergence after the merging of Android Market, Google Music and Google eBookstore. Google Play is available to all Android-based devices and is completely free to be downloaded. Some smartphones even has Google Play already pre-installed in its system. This simply shows how committed Google is when it comes to dominating the smartphone market.
