Mario Balotelli Charged - Mario Balotelli, Liverpool's striker, posted an image on Instagram that raised too many eyebrows and he ended up being charged by the FA.
Apparently, the player could face a five-game suspension due to this. Mario Balotelli has up to Dec. 15 to face the charge, according to the Huffington Post.
The image that caused such controversy was one of Super Mario Bros. with a suggestive text.
"Don't be a racist! Be like Mario. He's an Italian plumber, created by Japanese people, who speaks English and looks like a Mexican."
After the player posted the image on the social media, he received a backlash of comments and criticizes due to it. He took the image down and apologized later on.
"I apologize if I've offended anyone. The post was meant to be anti-racist with humor. I now understand that out of context may have the opposite effect. Not all Mexicans have moustache, not all black people jump high and not all Jewish people have money," was part of the statement he posted on Twitter.
This still didn't stop the FA from reacting and Liverpool's chief executive, Ian Ayre, shared his view on the matter.
Basically, he stated that social media is becoming a problem and that if it was up to him; he'd rather take the players out of all social media; not only for Mario Balotelli's issue, but more as a reflection on all players.
He stated that many times the main problem is that they have a lot of time off and that gives them the opportunity to put "these crazy sorts of messages up," the Daily Mail reported.
Well, one thing is sure now. Mario Balotelli will probably think twice before posting anything into his accounts of social media. To see if he'll be charged effectively after Dec. 15 will be a matter of patience.
