Cops Arrest Uber Driver: Uber Driver Arrested Two Days After Raping Finance Executive In India

Cops arrest an Uber driver, who allegedly raped a 25-year-old executive in the Indian capital. The woman was traveling home after attending a party in New Delhi on Friday. The alleged rapist was captured at his home town, Sunday.

Indian cops arrest Uber driver who was identified as Shiv Kumar Yadav. The 32-year-old offender was found to have committed the same offense in the previous years. He was arrested in his home town in Mathura, 160 kilometers south of the national capital.

The rape incident is seen as a blow to the safety claim of Uber Taxi, a U.S. taxi service that can be accessed through smartphone app. After a rape case had been filed to the driver, Yadav, New Delhi's deputy police commissioner Madhur Verma also stated that they would also seek legal action against Uber Taxi.

After Indian cops arrest Uber driver, the suspect is scheduled to face initial court hearing on Monday. Yadav allegedly fled to Mathura after he raped the woman, a Finance executive in an isolated part in New Delhi.

The rape incident happened Friday night after the 25-year-old Finance executive called an Uber Taxi for a ride home through her smartphone application. The woman fell asleep while travelling home and was awakened in a private location. She said the driver raped her and warned to kill her if she resists.

When the Uttar Pradesh cops arrest Uber driver on Sunday, the suspect claimed during police interrogation that he had been jailed for seven months in 2011 for rape case filed against him. He was detained in South Delhi's Mehrauli area and was freed after insufficient evidence, Times of India reports.

When cops arrest Uber driver, police investigators had found that Yadav was married to the widow of his brother. The man arrested has two daughters and a stepson. He has been a taxi driver for several years in the Indian capital.

When the Uber taxi was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh cops for the allegations, he submitted himself saying, "Galti ho gayi saab, kya karoon ab" (I committed a mistake. What do I do now) he stated while he was being interrogated by the authorities in his hometown.

The cops arrest Uber driver easily after the rape victim was able to take picture of the taxi's plate number during the incident. Apparently, after raping the 25-year-old executive, the suspect dropped her down to her home and left.

The cops arrest Uber driver in just two days is seen as a large hope for many Indians who are shouting for justice for the repeated rape cases in their nation.
