News of the Marvel Cinematic Universe get more and more exciting as time goes on, as new announcements hit the public: now, the guys behind "Avengers" have confirmed that the Doctor Strange comics' adaptation will be starring Benedict Cumberbatch!
Fans of Doctor Strange comics can rejoice now: Hollywood "it" guy Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing Stephen Vincent Strange, the neurosurgeon who turns into a superhero with magical powers. More than appropriate for the franchise after they first introduced Scarlet Witch in "Avengers: Age of Ultron," a character that can alter reality in unspecific ways.
According to CNN, the Doctor Strange comics' adaptation announcement is now official: after it had been reported in late October that Cumberbatch was in final talks for the role, Marvel has now said that the "Sherlock" actor will definitely be playing the role in the film, which is set for a summer 2016 release.
In the Doctor Strange comics, the character is a member of the New Avengers, a team that also features Iron Man, Hawkeye, Luke Cage and Spider-Man.
While it seems that due to legal issues Spidey will never be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (which is the one where things like "Avengers" and "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." happen), there are some good ones for Luke Cage fans: according to a new tip by Deadline, it seems that the guys running the Stan Lee business will be casting "Breaking Bad" and "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23" star, Krysten Ritter, as the lead in the straight-to-series drama partnering with Netflix, "Jessica Jones."
If the rumor were true, she would be playing the title role of the series, opposite character Luke Cage, who will apparently be played by Mile Coulter, famous for "The Following."
Whether you're a fan of Doctor Strange comics or just Marvel in general, great things are up ahead!
