The New Firefox Update Uses Yahoo As Its Default Search Engine

Mozilla, one of the most popularly used browsers, has officially launched Firefox 34. While majority of web browsers' updates aren't that exciting, this update includes new and interesting features. This is the very first Firefox version that will use Yahoo as its default search engine.

The team behind the known browser has announced that it would end its ten-year relationship with Google after hinting the brand new deal with another search engine, Yahoo. Many years ago, the company was renowned as the king of the search.

If you will download Firefox for the first time, Yahoo will be your default search engine. But, if you are already an existing user residing in the US or you haven't changed the default search engine of your browser, the update will ask you if you want to switch to Yahoo. You can stick with the current search engine on your browser by clicking "Later".

According to Digital Trends, Mozilla decided to end the practice of having the global default search provider in the independence and interest of choice. So, while the new search engine of Firefox will take care the users based in the US, users from Russia will get Yandex and those who are in China will get Baidu.

eBay, Bing, Amazon, DuckDuckGo, Wikipedia, and Twitter will still be offered as another search options. Marissa Mayer, Yahoo boss, said that she was actually thrilled with the deal as well as described this as the most important partnership for the company in many years.

With the hundreds of billions of web searches that were made by the users of Firefox each year, the deal of Yahoo looks set to breathe several new life into the search market business with increasing ad revenue.

The accurate terms of the deal between Yahoo and Mozilla are not known. However, the fact that Google has been paying Mozilla about $300M every year to be the default search provider of the browser, Yahoo might be paying the same amount.
