Athlete Diet Update: Marc Gasol Undergone A Vegetarian Diet To Get Fit

Marc Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies has surprised everyone with his fitter body this season as he has played for the team extremely better making his new diet the possible reason for this success.

This has been first reported by the New York Times and according to them, the Spanish player started to lose a lot of weight starting this summer. The center of the Grizzlies reportedly spent much of his sumer in Spain and he cut out refined sugar, soda, and even processed food form his usual diet.

He also cut back on carbohydrates and red meat feeding his body with a more semi-vegetarian diet. His teammates actually pointed out that they did not recognize Gasol when he came back as he looked like he lost 50 pounds as compared to when he played back in September.

Gasol has been a player ever since high school and back in 2012, he won the Defensive Player of the Year award. He is also to thank for the 40-19 win of the Grizzlies just this year.

Gasol has been one of the best players in the NBA for the past three years he has been playing in the league and for this upcoming season, he is expected to perform even better because of his diet. He is said to be in the best season of his life as he is averaging 20 points per game.

According to reports when he was not yet into the semi-vegetarian diet, he could not even score more than 14 points per game. Now, his player efficiency rating is at 23.6, which makes him rank the tenth in the league.

Gasol has become a free agent just this June and due to his fitness, he is expected to get more contracts and more than a dozen NBA teams will be signing him up.
