Officer Protester Hug - Ever since the decision of not indicting Darren Wilson over Michael Brown's death took place, there were protests all over. In Portland, something else and astonishing happened.
It was an embrace, a hug, between an officer, Portland Police Sgt. Bret Barnum and 12 year-old Devonte Hart.
Devonte had gone with his family to "spread love and kindness" in the protest taking place in Portland. The boy had a "free hugs" sign with him. Still, something called the attention.
He was crying while he held the sign in front of the police barricade. One officer, Barnum, motioned for him to approach him. The boy did and Barnum asked him some questions.
First, he asked his name and shook his hand. Then, where did he go to school. Later, what he did that summer and what does he like to do. Last, but not least, he asked if he could get a hug. They did and the photo was snapped, Yahoo News noted.
His mother explained in a Facebook post the reason behind Devonte's tears.
"My son has a heart of gold, compassion beyond anything I've ever experienced, yet struggles with living fearlessly when it comes to the police and people that don't understand the complexity of racism that is prevalent in our society," The Oregonian shared.
The picture between the officer and the young little protester was taken by Johnny Nguyen, a freelance photographer. It all took place in the Nov. 25 protest in Portland.
The most surprising of all is that Devonte didn't just astonish everyone with the hug, but already on Nov. 10 a "Meet Devonte" was written in Papertrail, where the boy showed to truly have a huge heart and be wise beyond his years already.
The picture focusing on the hug shared by the protester of love, Devonte and the officer was shared 150,000 times in Facebook, at least.
