‘The Imitation Game’ Gets Reviewed: Will Benedict Cumberbatch’s Alan Turing Biopic Land Him An Oscar?

With the end of the year also comes the season that will see the release of all the films that are hoping to land Academy Awards by the beginning of next year, among these is Benedict Cumberbatch's new Alan Turing biopic; but what are "The Imitation Game" reviews saying about the new film?

It's a new day for biographical movies about great scientists, after the Stephen Hawking biopic starring Eddie Redmayne, "The Theory of Everything," having been released in the early days of November. Now, the first "The Imitation Game" reviews are out, and everyone's dying to know what are the award chances for its two leads, Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley.

The first "The Imitation Game" reviews seem mostly favorable, although more towards Cumberbatch's performance than the film itself. The New York Times calls the movie anachronistic at times, saying that many of the dialogues couldn't really be fathomed by people in the 30s or 40s, particularly citing the term "digital computer" as an example of a word that'd be impossible to come by at the time. Even that way, the magazine's review said that his portrayal of Alan Turing was one of the "finest pieces of screen acting."

In the meantime, the Los Angeles Times' "The Imitation Game" review calls Turing "the role of Cumberbatch's career," talking about how his performance as the scientist known as the father of modern computing had a depth to it that made the character relatable and accessible, giving him the chance to expand on his talents.

While most of the "The Imitation Game" reviews have been directed towards Cumberbatch's performance, Keira Knightley's acting has also gotten a lot of love from critics, like the Roger Ebert site saying she comes close to matching Cumberbatch's efforts, giving the film real warmth.

All in all, "The Imitation Game" reviews have left the film with a strong critics' score of "Fresh" 85% in Rotten Tomatoes - certainly not a film to be missed!
