Obama's Keystone Pipeline Veto: Republicans Set to Bulldoze Keystone Pipeline Against White House Veto

Obama's keystone pipeline veto is perhaps giving the president more sleepless nights than the recent handing over of the senate to the Republicans. The President was quick to affirm that he would veto the Keystone pipeline project should it succeed to pass through the senate last Tuesday. It missed the mark by just one vote. However, with the Republicans setting the project as one of their top agendas on the new senate house, and considering their impressive numbers in the house, Obama's Keystone pipeline veto may prove pointless.

The Democrats have lost control of the Senate. The Republicans will now be calling the shots for the first time in almost a decade. With their superior numbers on the floor of the house, the Republicans will be quick to assert their authority in the house, and what better way to do it than to garner presidential veto proof numbers to bulldoze the Keystone pipeline project that the white House has expressed its distaste at into implementation.

Obama's keystone pipeline veto was aimed at vetoing the Keystone Pipeline bill should it have passed on Tuesday. Democrat Senator Mary Landrieu had resurrected the legislation in a bid to show her Senate muscle in the face of an oncoming December 6 Senate run off against the Republican Bill Cassidy.

Senator Landrieu had done her campaigning and tried to convince as many Senators to vote for the bill but to no avail. The Senator only managed to garner 59 votes for the bill against 41 against it. She needed 60 votes to make the cut.

Unfazed, the Republicans, who will be taking over the Senate with a superior number, are aiming for a 67 vote bill to be passed, ensuring the Obama Keystone pipeline veto is out of the question.

Incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell emphasized that the bill would be "an early item on the agenda in the next Congress." The battle may have been lost last Tuesday but the Keystone Pipeline war is far from over.
