Joseph Gordon-Levitt Is Edward Snowden In New Biopic! Oliver Stone Set To Direct New NSA Movie About Famous Whistleblower

It has been officially announced that Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Edward Snowden role will now be a reality, in an Oliver Stone film set to begin shooting over the winter.

A report by United Kingdom news outlet The Guardian has revealed that it's been confirmed that Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Edward Snowden project is a go, after the movie's backers said that it's set to begin shooting next January, in the German city of Munich.

The film will tell the story of how Snowden became the most recognized whistleblower in the world, after many of the globe's leaders stood passionately for or against his spill of United States security secrets.

While the announcement that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Edward Snowden in the still-unnamed film is a new one, it had been announced last summer that Stone was set to direct the film - an obvious choice, of course, since he's famous for his deeply political films, having tackled subjects such as the Vietnam War (in "Platoon"), the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy (in "JFK) and the life of Venezuelan socialist leader Hugo Chavez (in this year's documentary "Mi Amigo Hugo").

The film that will see Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Edward Snowden still has no name, but its screenplay (written by Stone) is based on two different books: Luke Harding's "The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World's Most Wanted Man" and Anatoly Kucherena's "Time of the Octopus."

The film will be produced by an independent studio called Open Road Films, and financed by Endgame Entertainment, who were the ones who announced Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Edward Snowden.

Back in June, the famous director (who's won three Oscars in the past: two for directing the films "Platoon" and "Born on the Fourth of July" and one for writing the screenplay for "Midnight Express") told The New York Daily News that the project about the NSA whistleblower was "one of the greatest stories of our time."

Now, Stone has his perfect match, as reports say his Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Edward Snowden was his first choice!
