Gourmet Restaurant In Frozen Lake: Winnipeg Hosts Beautifully Cold Restaurant!

For those who care about great food and cold environments, the news of the new gourmet restaurant in a frozen lake should be absolutely delighting: British architects created an innovative design of a super lightweight restaurant in Winnipeg, Canada.

The gourmet restaurant in a frozen lake is located where the Assiniboine and Red Rivers collide - and, according to The Independent, just the spot where the fur trade in North America was once at its highest point.

Of course, the gourmet restaurant in a frozen lake will be a winter venture - but, according to architect Tony Broomhead, from Sheffield UK, the ice during winter in the area is usually around two feet thick, creating a strong foundation to build on. This is set to boost gastronomic tourism in the Canadian city.

The gourmet restaurant in a frozen lake was a project that won an international competition to build a restaurant in the Canadian city of Winnipeg. The pre-built structure is made from aluminum scaffolding poles and a high-tensile fabric interior, according to The Indian Times, but patrons will definitely have to cover up to visit the restaurant, as the fact that it's built on ice will not allow room for heating.

"There is some high-level heating and some heat that comes from the kitchen, but essentially you will need to wrap up warm," said Broomhead "If we can get the temperature down to zero then it will be quite a cozy environment."

The gourmet restaurant in a frozen lake has made news not only for its ingenious architecture, but also for the fact that it will feature some of the continent's top chefs, who will be serving daily à la carte menus.

The structure is named RAW:almond, and it might be the first building specifically designed to be situated on a frozen body of water. The small venue will be able to sit 60 patrons at the same time and it will be open between January and March next year, when the ice will begin to melt.
