Lauren Hill Cancer spreads even further up her brain but the young college star is not slowing down her efforts. If anything, Lauren Hill is even more determined to live each day to its fullest.
Lauren Hill is the most inspiring sports story this year. Lauren Hill is a Mount Saint Joseph University freshman who was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer just months into her college freshman year.
The Lauren Hill cancer was first diagnosed in a few weeks after her 18th birthday. The young player played soccer and basketball in high school. She decided to commit to playing basketball from then on as it was more locally known. Just days into her decision, the young star started feeling bad. She went to hospital where the doctors diagnosed multiple tumors in her brain. Surgery was not an option. Six weeks of intense radiation followed, an experimental drug and lots of chemo did nothing. Doctors gave her a year to live.
Lauren Hill decided she would not let the cancer take away her few remaining years. She committed herself top practice, wishing she gets to play just one more basketball game in college before she dies.
While she practices everyday at 6 in the morning, the star does all she can to raise awareness on terminal cancer, hoping that donations will help assist researchers find a cure to ensure future patients don't have to share her fate.
The NCAA, recognizing her wish, moved up their game against Hiram College to November 2 to give her a better shot at playing. The games usually begin in late November. Xavier University offered its 10, 000 seat arena for the game. It sold out faster than a Cleveland Cavaliers exhibition this month. College basketball players from around the country are signing and sending No. 22 jerseys to her, showing support for the Lauren Hill cancer campaign.
"I try not to - try really hard not to - but it's hard to not think about down the road," she said on her road ahead. Show support for the Lauren Hill cancer campaign by reading more of this young woman's story.
