Honey Monster Puffs: Sugar Puffs Go Through Rebranding And Get New Name!

The company that has been making Sugar Puffs since 1957 has decided to give their cereal a turn towards the healthy, not only when it comes to the recipe but even in the name: the cereal will now be called Honey Monster Puffs!

Sugar Puffs - which is to say, Honey Monster Puffs now - is a long standing British cereal brand made by the Quaker Oats Company, which goes back to the late 50s, when public health concerns were nowhere near as broad as those today: by then, people were less concerned with the amount of sugar in their daily intake, as obesity wasn't such a widely spread condition as it is now.

However, the company recognizes the reality of today's health concerns and has decided to go with the times and give their famous cereal the new, less fatty name of Honey Monster Puffs. The strategy also entails a new recipe with less sugar and more honey, according to the UK's Daily Mail.

Halo Foods, the manufacturers of Honey Monster Puffs, have said that their take is to make their cereal far more transparent when it comes to their nutritional values that would allow consumers to make "informed decisions" regarding their product: they will also be featuring traffic light nutritional labeling on the front of the pack.

Recently, there was some conflict with the traffic light nutritional labeling imposed by the United Kingdom, as it caused concern with Italian food exporters: they thought the system made the country's products, like salamis and cheeses, seem unattractive to customers.

The new Honey Monster Puffs recipe takes out some of the sugar of the cereal - though it's still a major component - and includes 20 percent more honey.

The rebranding move follows a drop of 16 percent in sales of the famous UK breakfast cereal, according to The Telegraph. It is believed that this has been due to growing health concerns regarding sugar intake and its connection to obesity and the health problems that often accompany it.

The bad news is, though honey is indeed more natural than processed sugar, inside the body they both become the same thing: glucose. And that right there is a reason to worry about Honey Monster Puffs.
