Coronel West and 48 other activists were arrested in Ferguson, Missouri this week following their 'Moral Monday' march over the August killing of a defenseless 18-year old black teenager, Michael Brown by a police officer.

According to CNN report, Shawn McGuire, a spokesman for the St. Louis County Police Department stated that 49 people were apprehended.

West and 42 other people were confined at the Ferguson Police Department for allegedly committing 'act of civil disobedience.' The protesters were blocking traffic and declining to clear the street, police reports.

West, a professor at New York's Union Theological Seminary and a well-known activist, was arrested during a clash at the Ferguson Police Department.

Matt Pearce, Los Angeles Times reporter posted on Twitter that West along with clergy marched to the Ferguson police station on Monday. According to Pearce the protest was "highly coordinated with organizers clearing paths, sending clergy in waves ... willing to get arrested."

Activists aimed at 'day of action' on Monday as the group demands the arrest of Officer Darren Wilson, the police officer who fatally shot unarmed Michael Brown, a black teenager.

Earlier West affirmed that getting detained was part of his idea.

"I didn't come here to give a speech. I came here to go to jail," West said to the hundreds of people gathered at Saint Louis University. As they started marching, the protesters kept on shouting, "Indict, convict, put the killer cops in jail, the whole damn system is guilty as hell."

The newest protest taking place in Ferguson, St. Louis and the surrounding area is also called "Ferguson October" and "Weekend of Resistance," by the group. Recently on Sunday, there were at least 17 protesters taken into custody by the police officers as they repudiated to dismantle during a spontaneous sit-in rally at a QuikTrip convenience store.
