Ed Sheeran is reportedly planning to take a hiatus after he wraps up his final world tour dates in New Zealand this weekend, as he needs to undergo an ear surgery.
According to TV3.ie, the Photograph hit maker is just planning to finish his world tour then he will take a break from music as he will be undergoing an ear operation. The singer is suffering from an ear problem after bursting his ear drum during a boating excursion.
Talking about the incident, Ed explained to Australia's Nova radio that during a boating trip in Spain, he "jumped off a yacht really high up and smashed" his eardrum. The operation will be done in January, the Thinking Out Loud singer said he is "not allowed to fly for a while" after the surgery and he needs to rest at home.
Ed revealed that the accident happened earlier this year. "I didn't realise what happened until I went in the water again and it's the most painful thing, having a hole in your eardrum and having water go in," Sheeran added.
Ed also admitted that he always suffers from minor injuries, especially when he is on the road. "I always cut my hands open on something," Sheeran confessed to the media outlet. "Last time I did that was last year."
He said he has a lot of scars in his hand after attempting to open a beer bottle using a lighter. "I tried to do that with another beer bottle and it just kind of shattered in my hand ... It's usually beer bottles that smash in my hands and cut them open," Sheeran explained.
But that didn't stop him from opening a beer bottle again using a lighter, until his hands were stitched due to a shattered bottle. He said he received 11 stitches at that time and had to play for a gig, he related how the pain was excruciating while he played with his guitar.
