What do you get when you take Subway, vegetables, good lighting and ten liberal designers eager to make a mark, the Subway Veggie Fashion Show. Recently, Subway held their second annual food runway where designers were tasked to come up with clothing designs made of nothing but food. Talk about an all you can eat dressing.

Last year, at their first Project Subway Fashion Show, designers had to make dresses out of nothing but the non-edibles found in a Subway sandwich place: napkins, sandwich wrappers and salad bowls. This year, the sandwich maker went veggies all the way. Ten up and coming designers from the Fashion Institute of Technology were tasked to create designs based on veggies found in a Subway sandwich. These include lettuce, onions, tomatoes, peppers and all other fresh goodies.

The show on Tuesday night had all the hallmarks of a fashion show; a runway, red carpet, celebrities, paparazzi and a couple of out-of-this-world designs fitted into tiny model frames. The fashion show was well attended with fashion enthusiasts across New York in attendance.

The designs were judged by a star studded panel which included Oklahoma City Thunder Point guard Russell Westbrook, International Olympic Gymnast Nastia Liukin, Katie Perry's personal stylist and world renowned star stylist Johnny Wujek and Television personality Bella Thorne.

Olympic Gymnist Liukin was all too skeptical about the designs at first. "I was thinking, how are they going to make a design out of a vegetable?" she asked. But after seeing the designs, she couldn't resist craving a dress or two. "My favorite was the onion, but my second favorite was the banana pepper; we were torn between the two!" 

As the lights dimmed and the curtains closed on the designs, the onion dress and hat ensemble was able to capture the eyes of the judges (without tearing of course) enough to take first place. The position did in fact come with a lot of green- a one thousand dollar cash prize, and a spot to display the dress at a Subway location in the city.
