Facebook Down 911 - LA Police Officer, Sgt. Brink, had to ask people to stop phoning the Police to know when Facebook would be back on track from the shutdown.
When Facebook is down, is 911 the choice on who to call? The most probable and actual answer is no. Facebook is controlled by people, but certainly the Police have nothing to do with it nor will they have nothing to do with it unless a crime is committed and then they can enter into the issue. If Facebook page is down, then there aren't too many answers they can give.
That did not stop people from calling 911 due to the Facebook down and tell the Police when it would be solved. Sgt. Brink even posted a tweet that read, "Facebook is not a Law Enforcement Issue; please don't call us about it being down, we don't know when FB will be back up!" This was tweeted on Monday, at the beginning of August.
It may seem a bit funny now looking back on it, but if there are Facebook down 911 calls, and then a tweet for people to restrain themselves from calling, it means that there wasn't just one call but repeated ones and 911 is not a line to be taken as a joke. If an emergency happens, then they might not attend it due to the fact that these kinds of calls happen. Imagine a situation where an actual emergency related to a post on Facebook happens. Then Sgt. Brink from LA will not attend to it and probably tell the other Officers to ignore it as well.
The Facebook down 911 issue is one to take into consideration next time there is a shutdown and think who could be responsible for it instead of the Police or simple wait for the page to be back up in order to continue talking to loved ones or make posts. What is a sure thing now at least is that Facebook is clearly not a Law Enforcement issue.
