Lindt Joins Other Australian Food Retailers’ Westward Rush

Another Lindt chocolate store will be opened in Adelaide on Dec. 4, 2015 as part of the expansion of Lindt & Sprungli's chocolate stores into Southern part of Australia.

Australian Food News shared that the company operated a total of eight chocolate cafes in the country plus an additional of five chocolate shops spread between Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne before its latest announcement.

Lindt stated in a statement that its new shops are set to offer a wider range of chocolates compared to what is being sold in retail outlets and other supermarkets. Moreover, the stores stock baskets for the forthcoming Christmas season.

Almost everyone, if not all, knows that the chocolate giant is in competition with Guylian - a Belgian chocolate group - which unveiled its Australian retail plan to open more or less 30 stores in July 2015. These shops will be opened across the country over four years with at least one store in each state and territory.

The Belgian-chocolate brand was reported to be operating in NSW starting on July 9, 2015. Also, a few number of Melbourne stores were opened last few months while it already has three cafes situated in the city of Sydney.

Lindt and Guylian are not the only chocolate manufacturers and retailers which are expanding westwards from Australia's east coast with first focus being half-way in the southern part of the land down under. As a matter of fact, Aldi declared its plans for expansion for Western Australia and South Australia in October last year.

Additionally, Woolworths Limited also revealed in April 2014 that it is planning to open a total of 11 new stores over the following six years. The company said it would be creating approximately 4,500 jobs in South Australia. Coles' Supermarket, on the other hand, divulged its expansion plan s for Western Australia shortly after its parent company Westfarmers was permitted to acquire a number of independent chain Progressive Supa IGA supermarkets September of last year.
