Guillermo del Toro may no longer be signed on to work on 'Justice League Dark,' but Warner Bros. has every intention to get the project developed by 2016!
According to Latino-Review, Warner Bros. still has big plans for 'Dark Universe,' which currently has producer Scott Rudin on board. In addition to that, the studio wants to make sure their John Constantine is someone with a big name.
"The studio disagreed with Del Toro's choice to play John Constantine and is seeking A-List talent. Right now the frontrunner for the part looks like Colin Farrell, who is currently shooting 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' with the studio," the site wrote, adding that Obi-Wan Kenobi might also be considered for the role.
"However, Ewan McGregor has also been approached for the same part," the site wrote.
The choice of actor to take on the role of the Hellblazer could definitely make or break the way 'Justice League Dark' is accepted by fans. Although it seems like Colin Farrell would be an excellent option to play the occult detective, Ewan McGregor would also make a great fit.
Could Ewan McGregor take the role of John Constantine from Colin Farrell? Warner Bros. has yet to comment on the casting news.
John Constantine has previously been played on the big screen by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 film. In 2014, the Hellblazer was portrayed by Matt Ryan in the short-lived NBC TV series before reprising the role in 'Arrow' in the episode 'Haunted.'
In addition to looking for a John Constantine, Warner Bros. is also looking to cast Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon. According to Latino-Review, the studio already agrees with Guillermo del Toro's choice for Swamp Thing (who is none other than 'Hellboy' actor Ron Perlman) and is eyeing 'Spectre' star Monica Belluci to play Madame Xanadu.
