Following SeaWorld's announcement that they are putting off its signature whale show in San Diego on 2017, Saturday Night Live presented a funny-but-serious skit that took aim at the controversial theme park.
The Dodo reports Taran Killam, Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, Kate McKinnon, Beck Bennet and special guest Elizabeth Banks were on stage together for the High School Theatre Show inspired by a theater piece written by a student entitled "Mirror to America: A Reflection of You."
At one part, McKinnon stepped up to lead the issue concerning SeaWorld and took it real.
"Ok here's the joke," she said. "They call it 'SeaWorld'. But they don't see the world. They see walls, they see tanks, they see nothing," referring to the whales in captivity.
"So I'm afraid we go to SeaWorld, see yourself inside a tank," they continued, asking questions: "Would you like to live in captivity? Would you like to be separated from your children? Would you like to be jacked off for your sperm?"
A member of the audience then responded "that was the worst moment of my entire life" imagining to be one of those captives.
"Now did you see? World?" they ended.
The skit from the live comedy show was among the many protests against SeaWorld Entertainment since the release of the Blackfish Documentary in 2013.
Just last week, animal activists claimed victory over the theme park when its chief executive officer Joel Manby announced they will stop its famous dramatic whale display in San Diego on 2017.
However, orcas will still be displayed in other SeaWorld parks in California, Florida and Texas, BBC reports.
According to the company's vice president of communications, Fred Jacobs, this decision reflected the "input received" in the San Diego park, adding, "it does not affect our other parks."
Despite Jacobs' statement, SeaWorld still continues to to suffer huge decrease on sales and attendance amid getting heavy criticisms for its whale captivity
