'How to Train Your Dragon 3' Release Date: Drako Might Become Lead Protagonist; Plot Features Valka as Villain? -- What We Know So Far [VIDEO]

Director Dean DeBlois opened up about the things fans should expect in "How to Train Your Dragon 3."

Dean revealed in an interview with Collider that there will be some changes among the characters in the third installment. He said that "Dragon 3" will end Hiccup's coming-of-age story.

"[Dragon 3 is] the culmination of Hiccup's coming of age," he divulged. "Both he and Toothless are now chiefs of their respective tribes, and it's a dueling story where you have both characters trying to do what's right for their kind, and an eventual outcome where Hiccup is able to stand on his own."

Additionally, he stated that the forthcoming sequel will make a full turn and start where Cressida Cowell's original novel series began. To recall, the story in the books originated with an older Hiccup recalling a time when dragons and humans lived together.

"We're gonna take the story to where the books begin, which is Hiccup as an adult reflecting back on a time where there were dragons, suggesting that the dragons will in some way go away." Dean teased. "Why and could they come back and the mystery of what all that is will be saved for the actual story."

The director also shared that Drago will return for "Dragon 3". However, he said he will be "a lot more complex" than ever - compared to what was shown of him on the second installment of the series.

Dean's statements seemed to suggest that Drago may perhaps fool the people of Berk and make them believe that he has changed, or he might really become one of the lead protagonists instead. Whatever Drago's character may become, it surely is something that fans could look forward to.

The director revealed last year that Valka was originally the primary villain for the series. But, the creators opted for Drago instead.

Despite Dean's clarifications, Christian Post noted that fans did not stop from thinking that there may be a huge twist of events that would eventually led to the explanations as to why dragons are no more.

"How to Train Your Dragon 3" is set to big screens on June 29, 2018.
