Dunkin' Donuts Bravely Unveils Holiday Cups Amid Starbucks Drama: Read the Funny Reactions

Dunkin' Donuts unveiled its new Joy cups on Tuesday, Nov. 10, following Starbucks' red cup backlash.

Us Weekly shared that the coffee brand's cups are white with word "Joy" written across them in holiday script and green and red décor. Dunkin' Donuts shared a snap of the holiday cup on Instagram, along with a star emoji and the caption, "JO."

To recall, Starbucks' festive red cups, which marked the forthcoming season annually, were tainted this year by controversy. The whole scandal happened after American evangelist Joshua Feuerstein aired his grievances about the cup in a now-viral Facebook post titled "Starbucks REMOVED CHRISTMAS from their cups because they hate Jesus."

Starbucks unveiled the classic cup without symbols like ornaments, reindeers or any graphics earlier this month. Instead, the holiday design is minimalistic which featured "two-toned ombré design, with a bright poppy color on top that shades into a darker cranberry below."

"Starbucks has become a place of sanctuary during the holidays," the coffee giant's vice president of design and content, Jeffrey Fields, explained to Us why this year's cups were simpler in design. "We're embracing the simplicity and the quietness of it. It's a more open way to usher in the holiday."

Despite the clamor, a Starbucks spokesperson told the publication in a statement that the plain cup actually encourages creativity among its fans. "This year's design is another way we are inviting our customers to create their own stories on our cups," the statement read. "Our core value as a company is to create a culture of belonging, inclusion, and diversity. Each year during the holidays we aim to bring our customers an experience that inspires the spirit of the season and we will continue to embrace and welcome customers from all backgrounds and religions in our stores around the world."

While Dunkin' Donuts' new cup does not explicitly wish customers a "Merry Christmas," it does include what appear to be limbs of holly or pine trees branches. It does feature red and green motif like Starbucks' cups.

"Dunkin' Donuts new slogan: 'Dunkin Donuts: Jesus Doesn't Hate Our Coffee Cups.' #StarbucksRedCup," one customer posted on Twitter. "Dunkin Donuts: determined to win all the right wing religious coffee drinkers," another fan added.

Others aren't as charmed by the whole war on Christmas though. "#ItsJustACup Get over it. Drink your coffee. Move on. Jeebus." another coffee drinker weighed in.
