It was Alanis Morissette who paved the way for female songstresses to share their heartbreak long before Taylor Swift and Adele sang their hearts out, and Swift even invited the Canadian superstar on stage to sing one of her biggest hits of the 1990s, "You Oughta Know" - but now, it's Alanis Morissete's "Ironic" making headlines!
It's been 20 years since "Jagged Little Pill," the singer's first album outside her native Canada, came out and turned her into one of the biggest names in alternative rock, bringing instant classics like "Thank U" and, of course, Alanis Morissette's "Ironic," which she recently belted out, with updated lyrics, on late night.
According to The Guardian, the 41 year-old singer recently appeared on "The Late Late Show with James Corden" to celebrate how her breakthrough album had just turned two decades old, so she shared a little Alanis Morissette "Ironic" reboot with the English host.
As The Mirror reports, Alanis Morissette's "Ironic" is one of the singer's biggest singles of all times and certainly among her staple songs (SetList.fm lists it as her fourth most-played tune, right after three other singles from "Jagged Little Pill"), so it's no surprise that's the one she decided to honor on the show, only a few days after singing another fan favorite from the album on Jimmy Fallon's "The Tonight Show."
In the new Alanis Morissette "Ironic" version, which obviously went viral right afterwards, both Alanis and Corden sit to play with a guitar and matching red beanie hats to honor the original 1995 clip, and they sing about the "ironies" of the modern age.
"It's like swiping left on your future soul mate / It's like a Snapchat that you wished you had saved / It's a traffic jam when you tried to use Waze," Morissette and Corden sang, according to E! Online.
