Robin Thicke and his wife, Paula Patton, have announced that they are separating after almost nine years of marriage, according to People Magazine.
The pair, which met twenty-two years ago at an underage L.A. club, have been married since June 11, 2005 and are parents to 3 1/2-year-old Julian Fuego Thicke. The couple released a joint statement regarding their separation.
"We will always love each other and be best friends," the couple said. "However, we have mutually decided to separate at this time."
Several rumors of Thicke's infidelity have surfaced during their marriage. The "Blurred Lines" singer was photographed getting close to another woman, who claimed Thicke kissed her after meeting at a VMAs after-party. Thicke also posted an innocent picture taken with a fan, but a mirror reflection shows Thicke's hand grabbing the young woman's backside as he smiles for the camera.
The New York Daily News reported that last month, Thinke was photographed "dirty dancing" with another woman in Paris.
"It has been a long time coming," a source close to Thicke told Us Weekly. "It is not a shock to Robin or Paula, and it is something they have discussed for a long time."
Thicke has constantly defended his marriage after his controversial VMA performance with Miley Cyrus. In July, Thicke told USA Today that, "Some of our individual goals still haven't been realized. But we have a healthy child. We're madly, crazily in love. That's where I was at, and I wanted to celebrate it. Life is pretty good, you know?"
During a joint interview with Prestige Hong Kong Magazine last September, Patton gushed about how she and her husband were always there for each other.
"I've been there for his down moments and he's been there for mine," she explained. "Life is full of peaks and valleys. Robin has always been a great person to remind me to celebrate now."
"I don't know if I would still be alive in some ways if it wasn't for Paula," Thicke said. "She's been my rock, my muse, my inspiration, and I love her."
