Hot Dog Debate: Is it Really A Sandwich Or Not? Americans Have Decided.

The great American debate has finally come to an end after decades of uncertainty.  Now, we have arrived to a definitive answer on whether or not hot dog is a sandwich.  An official press release from the America's National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC) states that hot dogs are not sandwiches.

Reports have confirmed that hot dog is not a sandwich.  As reported by the Independent UK, America has finally put an end on the debate whether or not hot dog is a sandwich.  A week before, Americans celebrated National Sandwich Day last week and the troublesome discussion were circulating around the Daily Show and the Buffalo Bills locker room since last week.

As the best authority to answer the decades-long question according to U.S. media, the NHDSC quickly cleared things up.

According to the organization's president, Janet Riley, explained hofw the hot dog is defined.  "Limiting a hot dog's significance by saying it's 'just a sandwich' is like calling the Dalai Lama 'just a guy'."

"Perhaps at one time its importance could be limited by forcing it into a larger sandwich category but that time has passed," she added.

"We therefore choose to take a cue from a great performer and declare our namesake be a hot dog formerly known as a sandwich," she finished off.

Meanwhile, USA Today further reports that NHDSC was able to arrive on this decision after acknowledging hot dog's impact on American history as well as the "open" nature of a hot dog in a bun.

"When it first arrived on American shores from Europe in the late 1800s, it was often referred to as a 'Coney Island Sandwich' or 'Frankfurter sandwich," the NHDSC, notes.

Meanwhile, US Department of Agriculture definition was also considered although it did not give a definite answer.

"U.S. Department of Agriculture guidance also suggests the hot dog, as meat between bread, falls into the sandwich category," the note reads.

Meanwhile the Merriam Webster defines hot dog as either "one slice of bread covered with food" or "two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between.  Indeed, hot dog shares same characteristics as a sandwich thus the confusion.

To end everything with clarity, the NHDSC leaves a parting comment, "A hot dog is an exclamation of joy, a food, a verb describing one 'showing off', and even an emoji.  So what do you think?  Do you think a hot dog a sandwich or not?  Let us know by leaving your comments below.
