Responsible parenthood involves having your children eat the right foods. Always give your kids a diet that meets their high nutritional demands, keeps them healthy but not totally deprives them of eating what they like. Needless to state, what you basically don’t give them to eat is just as important as what you do. Here are the recent list of the 'worst things' you could let your children eat.
Chips, Crackers, Biscuits and Sweets
Healthy snacking is always a key so your little ones do not crave for any of these 'junk foods'. These goodies are actually pleasant to the eyes of the kids but unfortunately, they're unhealthy. The fats, sugar and salt in these snacks draw kids like a magnet, largely because they appeal to a child's "primordial tastes". Junk food and foods with high-sugar content deplete energy levels and the ability to concentrate for extended periods of time.
However, a news report also stated that it is a matter of having restrictions on junk food consumption as this also seemed to backfire in the long run.
Processed Meats, 'Takeaway' Products and Burgers
According to BubHub, some cheap meat pies and sausages are two of the worst processed foods that you can give your child because they’re dripping in hydrogenated fats. The meat in the sausages and low-quality burgers can be low grade and mechanically recovered. Likewise, pies are sometimes deep fried, further adding needless fat - considered really unhealthy.
Be mindful that foods, whether cooked in oil, whether fried, sautéed, or even roasted, were linked to weight gain, too.
Chewing Gums
Nutritionist Natalie Savona, author of Wonderfoods for Kids, has warned the parents to not let their kids make chewing a gum a habit. Doing this confuses the digestive system and constant chewing as well as production of saliva prepares it to receive food which actually never arrives. The primary risk on this is that it can eventually interfere with the kids’ ability to correctly interpret hunger signals.
Now, put this into practice, consider other healthy alternatives and be creative in preapring and serving the meals of your kids. All these and more can make you the best parents ever.
