Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has opened up about her emotional struggle when she found out that her ex-husband, Ashley Cole had been cheating on her.
The 'X Factor' judge revealed that she was about to go on stage to perform at the BRIT Awards in 2010 when the news broke out about the soccer's star infidelity.
"To be honest, I coped in public and crumbled in private," she told InStyle Magazine. "It's growth, it's life. They say a good sailor would never be a good sailor if he hadn't experienced a rough sea."
Fernandez-Versini and Cole married in 2006. Though they are considered to be one of the powerful couples in the entertainment industry there were many times that the couple faced rumors about Ashley's infidelity but still for many years she remained by his side.
Now, she revealed that she received a lot of criticism for standing by her man's side but apparently those people experienced the same thing and eventually apologized to her for judging her.
"It's funny - those who didn't understand my actions at the time have now had that happen to them and they get it," she said. "A friend of mine told me her husband was having an affair and she said, 'I understand everything that must have been going through your head. But what I will never understand is how you had to face the world'."
Fernandez-Versini and Cole were married for four years before they decided to call it quits after she discovered he cheated on her again. Talking about her failed marriage, she previously revealed that she sought medical help to help her get through it.
"I was walking crazyville," Cheryl revealed to The Times magazine. "I had no fire in me belly. I didn't feel passionate any more, just a bit dead. Getting out of bed was difficult."
Now, Cheryl is happily married to French restauranteur Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini.
