Eat A Dead Possum? Roadkill Food Menu At Vermont Hotel for Dinner

If you've ever wondered what dinner that got hit by a truck tastes like, then Vermont is the place for you.

A hotel in Berlington, Vermont, called Vermont Hotel, will be hosting a dinner to celebrate local produce and foods at Vermont. The menu will include fresh food supplies and donations from local Vermont hunters and fishermen, and that also includes our little critter friends that risked their lives crossing the highway.

If you're the adventurous type and are planning to visit Vermont on November 7, 2015 then be sure to drop by the area and get a taste of their local food tourism. The theme "Wild About Vermont" will include wild game delicacies, local produce and food will include deer, beaver, goose, bear, muskrat, moose, and walleye and lake trout from the Lake Champlain brought by James Ehlers. To make it more exciting, it will have three additional unidentified animals provided by the Vermont Fish and Wildlife agency after their untimely road accidents. Don't worry, the menu will tell you what the mystery meat is for that day. It's going to be a surprise!

The hotel Chef, Doug Paine sat down with WPTZ and said that tourists and visitors are welcome to eat whatever they want on the menu. They won't force anyone to eat a muskrat ran over by a truck but they're welcome to try. He adds that the whole idea of the menu is to get people connected to their local food sources and to showcase the traditions of Vermont.

Before you push your plate away, the proceeds of this event will go to the LCI and Vermont Fish and Wildlife. That's a unique way to get fed. It's an idea that people find different and interesting.

Ehlers said that they're trying to bring people together around the sustainability of local and wild food. Even local Vermont residents haven't tried beaver but if it was offered, they'd probably eat it. Paine will open the hotel for dinner and will cost about $7.00 but he's giving his assurance that it'll be delicious.
